#1 - Introductory Episode
Since 1981, Heartbeat Records has been releasing and reissuing Jamaican music. A big part of Heartbeat’s effort to release reggae music’s greatest hits is our relationship with Studio One, Jamaica’s all-time, most celebrated record label. In 2006, Heartbeat renewed it’s relationship with Studio One, kicking off a reissue series featuring The Best of Studio One, Full Up: More Hits from Studio One, and Downbeat the Ruler: Killer Instrumentals from Studio One, complete with bonus tracks and updated liner notes. With episode #1, we invite you to enjoy Heartbeat’s first-ever podcast, hosted by Heartbeat’s own Joshua B. Episode #1 of “The Heartbeat” is designed to catch you up with Heartbeat’s Studio One reissue program. And in the meantime, you’ll hear some of Jamaica’s greatest songs.

Got something to say?
I am very shocked by the untimely death of my favourites musician in this entire world. Lucky Dube i will always remember you,and i am going to buy more of his music to keep as remembrance.
God knows why it happened.
May his soul rest in peace.
Vavey,
I hope you will check Heartbeat Reggae Podcast #2. It’s a tribute to your favorite musician.
My heart goes out to Lucky’s family and dear friends. Words can’t really explain how deeply hurt i am by the passing of such a great reggae legend. No one knows why, only god knows. He is the only one who will help you and me and everyone else get through such a difficult time. I want to reach out to his family especially, i just cannot imagine how hurt they are and how painful this might be for them…..but lay your worries and pains in the hands of the lord and he will heal all wounds and broken hearts.
I just wanted to relay a little of my history with regards to Lucky and his music. From the age of 11, when my aunts husband used to pay lucky’s music on those large records, I acquired a strong liking and admiration for Lucky’s music………….I enjoyed it dearly…..i loved the words he was trying to get across. There a point in time my mom was worried and she thought i would start growing locks, just because i would get so emotional………………i would transform when i hear his music…..and i waited for the day when he would come to St. lucia to perform……….The first time he came though,,, i was to young to go to the park to visit and i waited and waited for him to make another entrance…and he did. He came back when i was over the age of 18.
My goodness, that day was one of the most incredible days of my life…. i dressed the part and i was at the park,,,listening and chanting to his music. The music i love so much, so dearly………Oh how i love his songs. His songs touched me in a way no songs or tunes have ever touched me….
When i heard he was shoot…..i was just travelling to Hartford, connecticut, my heart sunk, my lips dropped…………….i felt sick, i felt miserable,,, all i kept hoping for was that the news reporter made a mistake and that it was someone else, until i heard the news over and over and over……………………BUT TO ME HE IS NOT DEAD… HE HAS GONE TO REST….TO BE IN A BETTER PLACE, WITH THE LORD WHERE HE WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF.
I WILL ALWAYS, ALWAYS CHERISH HIS MUSIC, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIM……………………………..HIS MUSIC WILL NEVER LEAVE ME……………………………WHEN I NEED SOME WORDS OF INSPIRATION I WILL JUST TURN ON A LUCKY DUBE TUNE.

I just discovered the podcast. Great job Joshua B.! This is a great idea; I hope you keep it up. I fell in love with Heartbeat reissues of Studio One music about 18 years ago. Thank you!!!!!!
Thank you Keith! I learned a lot about the history of the music from Heartbeat reissues as well, but 18 years ago…you have me beat!
